'DSF Format Error' Message When Uploading Data to the IFD

When updating databases, or any other files to the IFD, you may see this error:

This is because your USB thumb drive is not properly formatted to FAT32.

Avidyne recommends an 8 or 16 GB thumb drive for uploading data to the IFD because they are easily formatted to the proper FAT32 format.

Any thumb drives 2GB and less, or greater than 32GB cannot easily be formatted to FAT32 due to partition differences in smaller drives, and in anything larger than 32GB.

Mac computers are notoriously difficult to properly format USB drives to FAT32, but there are resources online to help you properly format your USB to FAT32 depending on your particular iOS.

To format your USB to FAT32 on a PC, follow these steps:

1. Insert the thumb drive into a USB port on your computer or laptop.

2. in File Explorer, find your thumb drive:

3. Right-click the USB Drive and click 'Format':

4. Make sure File System is set for 'FAT32'. In most cases, this is the default, but you MUST select FAT32:

5. Click 'Start'. You'll see a warning that says, "Formatting will erase ALL data on this disk. To format the disk, click OK. To quit, click CANCEL."

Click OK:

 6. Once formatting is complete, you'll see this message. Click OK and resume loading the required files onto the USB stick for eventual load into the IFD:
